6 prompts to spy on competitor ads (Claude + Meta)

Meta shows you how many times a brand duplicated a winning ad. These six prompts turn that into a competitive intelligence system.

6 prompts to spy on competitor ads (Claude + Meta)

When a brand finds an ad that converts, they do not run one copy of it.

A single ad ID hits frequency caps - the same person sees it too many times and Meta pulls back delivery. So they spin up ten or fifteen identical copies, each pointed at a different audience or placement, and run them in parallel.

That decision shows up at the bottom of ad cards in Meta's library as a chip that reads "X ads use this creative and text" - it is the clearest public signal of how much budget a brand is actually putting behind a creative and it is sitting there for anyone to read.

I built 6 prompts that turn that signal into a competitive intelligence system and tested them against Liquid Death's library.

How the prompts chain

Monday is a full /audit on 20 screenshots - visual formula, copy voice, winners ranked by duplicate count, gaps, and one angle the competitor cannot run.

On Wednesday, you run /gap with your brand context against that audit to find the structural lock. Thursday /brief turns the gap into 10 shippable ad concepts.

Every quarter, you paste two sets of screenshots into /drift and the output tells you what shifted, what they killed, and what the new formula is.

After four quarters on your top three competitors, you have twelve audits, twelve voice extractions, and nine drift reports. That folder is competitive intelligence that no agency will sell you, built from several data points Meta puts on every ad card for free.

What is included

6 prompts - each one reads the duplicate count as the primary signal, returns a structured artifact you can brief from with an operator note for what to watch for when the output comes back differently than the sample.

  • /audit - Full 5-section teardown covering visual formula, copy voice, winners ranked by duplicate count, gap analysis, and the one angle the competitor cannot run. Once per competitor per quarter.

  • /winners - Ranks the top 5 ads by duplicate count and names what they share. The overlap is the formula being scaled.

  • /voice - Voice in 3 sentences, the category convention they invert, hook formula, CTA mix, 3 verbatim lines from the most duplicated ads, and 3 words no competitor in the category uses.

  • /gap - Requires a cannot-say list for your brand. Returns 3 angles adapted to your voice, 5 angles they have not run and one lane they cannot structurally enter.

  • /brief - Run after /gap. Turns the gap analysis into 10 shippable ad concepts with headline, body copy, visual description, and format.

  • /drift - Paste two screenshot sets from the same competitor. Returns visual formula shifts, copy voice changes, winner drift, what they killed.
